Asphalt Industry Alliance report:<\/strong>
Annual Local Authority Road maintenance survey (ALARM) survey \u2502 March 2022<\/strong><\/a><\/p>

Every year the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA) commissions an independent survey of local authority highway departments in England (including London) and Wales. The Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) survey provides detailed insight into the funding and conditions of the local road network, based on information provided directly by those responsible for its maintenance.<\/p>

Now in its 27th year, ALARM 2022 reports that, despite a 4% increase in average highway maintenance budgets, less is being invested in the carriageway itself. As a result, the reported backlog of carriageways repairs has increased by almost a quarter to \u00a312.64 billion \u2013 that\u2019s \u00a361,700 for every mile of local road in England and Wales \u2013 and will take nearly a decade to complete.<\/p>

ALARM Survey reports local roads repair backlog tops \u00a312 billion \u2502 22 March 2022<\/strong><\/a><\/p>

The backlog of carriageway repairs to fix local roads in England and Wales has reached \u00a312.64 billion, compounded by increased costs caused by rising inflation, reports this year\u2019s Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) survey.<\/p>

The ALARM survey, published by the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA), highlights the scale of the worsening issue faced by highway engineers who have to make difficult choices about keeping local roads open and safe versus improving overall conditions. Paving the way for lower carbon roadworks \u2502 18 August 2021<\/strong><\/a><\/p>

The Government\u2019s low carbon agenda has moved another step forward with today\u2019s announcement<\/a> by Highways England to encourage the use of Warm Mix Asphalts (WMAs) as standard on our key routes.<\/p>

The Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA), which represents the asphalt industry, welcomes the move which could help cut the CO2 <\/sub>emissions associated with asphalt production by up to 15%*.<\/p>
